frankly, yes. but that is a much more complicated issue. obviously we can't ignore factors that prevent people from adopting children, like human biological urges, or the unforunate hurdles adoptive parents face. there are no such issues in pet adoption. not a realistic comparison imo.

i don't know the answer to that, because i'm not sure if this country has a problem with overpopulation of pet rats, or whether rat breeders are pulling from a too small gene pool, or if selective breeding for physical characteristics puts the animals health at risk, as is the case for cats and dogs.
