This is worth writing your local representative about. I believe once garnishment ensues the original interest rate should be voided and it should transition to prime. The real kicker in this story isn’t that they were accountable for a debt they were unable to pay. It’s that the debt ended up being 3x the original

No, but they did go bankrupt after introducing a “revolutionary” new product that captured a significant market share, so they very well could have that in common.

We’re calling it “The Launchpad”, it’s a revolutionary station from which we will sell and service Tesla products! No one has ever tried this before! Oh and also we’re going to have all the work done by puppets that look like robots but they’re controlled by underpaid staff up in the rafters pulling the strings in

“The Leader is good, The Leader is great, we surrender our will as of this date.”

Yes, it’s pretty cut and dry. There has been a strong crackdown on this since the late 2000s, when some companies started trying to turn everything into paid internships, and state-level DOLs stepped in to define what qualifies. This isn’t it.

Definitely some sort of labor violation - Tesla is a for-profit company, and the work being performed by these volunteers is just regular work done by paid employees of the company. It’s not like their doing a Habitat for Humanity and asking Tesla owners to join, they are literally asking people to come do sales work

You mean, like having a place to sell the cars. Perhaps, to make a deal on the cars.

The nineties called, they want their perception of electric car drivers back. These are self-congratulatory tech bros, libertarian capitalism worshipers that probably like to make fun of vegans as much as any other dweeb.

id be pretty bummed if i spent like 100k on a Tesla and some Tesla fan boy showed up with my car to deliver it

Yes, I’m sure having random strangers come into a dealership service center (?) to educate customers will help a ton and not increase the layers of confusion.

Not if they leased it.

Do you unfriend people that roll through three-year leases?

This actually happened to a friend of mine. A big hail storm destroyed her Accord and insurance totaled it. She was two months away from paying it off, and she got pennies in the settlement.

You can write a check for it though.... certified

Walk in, and then the dealership tells you they won’t sell it to you for cash.

I did.

Neutral: One item on my unrealistic bucket list is to walk into a dealership and buy a new car with cash. Naturally, this comes after the part that says “Become just famous enough to have my own Wikipedia page”.

Reverse: All Hail Honda

Neutral - we bought new for my wife’s recent purchase, although we did go for a rare vehicle (Highlander Hybrid) that really didn’t have much presence in the used market.  She keeps cars for about 7 years at a time though (and we’ll pay it off in 2-3 years), so it isn’t too bad.  Plus, we got to take the clear plastic
