I’m with you, Silver. So many closed doors over the years. No, you can’t wear pants. No, you can’t take shop class - only cooking and sewing. No, you can’t get an interview without a typing test. No, you can’t be a Rhode Scholar. No, you can’t have an Equal Rights Amendment. We’ve waited and worked a long time for YES!

Well, Ivanka was (is?) a democrat.

This! When I listened to Ivanka and a few others, I thought I was in Opposite Land. The platform and the speeches were not compatible. This is one way to steal democratic votes and then govern otherwise.

I like to follow the money. Is Peter Thiel behind this?

Is that an Earthbound reference? Well-played.

I know someone whose severe acne scarring still results in blackheads as a senior citizen. If only they’d had something more than antibiotics in the sixties. Now a carefully monitored prescription can clear up the worst cases.

I’ve lived in four provinces and always had to pay out of pocket for birth control. That’s why it was so annoying when ED drugs were immediately covered under employer health benefits.

It is law in Quebec for a child to carry the mother’s maiden name. Married couples don’t change their names either. It’s simpler all around and there is no issue of maternity. I like this set up and wish it had applied where I married. Hyphenation has been a nightmare!

I thought they only had those in the Duggar clan - never realized it was a normal activity!

When Lupita first appeared on TDS in Dec to push Star Wars, and I assume when Trevor first met her, he was so obviously smitten (no surprise there). It’s nice to see them collaborating on substantive issues now.

We always hear about medicine in the US needing to cost more because of research and innovation, yet so many groundbreaking procedures were begun elsewhere (heart transplant, in vitro fertilization, hand/face transplants, laparoscopic surgery, Rh therapy for childbirth, this new uterus transplant, etc.). Looks like

Do all US post-secondary schools take attendance and count that as part of the course mark? That is a very nanny-like attitude and must account for some grade inflation.

The Calgary track was built for the 1988 Olympics. Previous tracks were not usually combined. Later tracks have used the combined system for the very reason cited: it saves money (and space) in initial construction and ongoing maintenance. This is not a knock on the design in Calgary or elsewhere.

Direct quote from the linked article to the London (Canada) Free Press:

This is a popular track for tourists and athletes. Anyone can try it out under controlled conditions (e.g. you can be a passenger driven by an expert on the bobsleigh track). But to save money, this track was built for multiple sports with the luge track and the bobsleigh track intersecting like a “Y”. You can’t use

Awareness is helpful.

I love your new moniker! I’ll just have some hot water and ketchup, please...

Good post, but Steinem wasn’t saying young women were crazy for Bernie. She was saying that they were crazy for their boyfriends who are supporting Bernie. Not politically correct, but this fits the 50's-60's experience that she’s coming from.

“have you honestly been afraid of your life when rejecting a man?”

Starred for use of the word “snazzy.”
