Agree.  It feels so weird to say it was a pretty dang good race despite two dudes being a minute clear of everybody else.  Had they not tossed the VSC for Latifi, I think could have been some more interest with Perez actually getting to fight Alonso.

Agree.  I’m pulling for Honda to go out on top, so Perez in 4th rather than 3rd was a slight bummer.  But to get Alonso up there, that’s a damn good trade off!

100% spot on.

fair point. This isn’t the hill I’m gonna die on. I guess just annoyed we’re now up to several (and possibly a trend) of this narrative. I think a few weeks ago it was suggested IndyCar would be *preferable* to F1.

A resurgence is one thing, but that’s not what this means: “In all, this new Europe-to-America trend is quite the compliment to the American racing series”.

Another article making it sound like F1 (or lower series) drivers coming to CART/IndyCar is something new. Let’s set Nigel aside for a moment, but right off the top of my head:

Yup - that’s another.  Or the medleys on Abbey Road.  When Sirius first started up years ago, they didn’t have things programmed just right and would chop that up.  I remember hearing Mean Mr Mustard all by itself.  Was nice and weird :)

Absolutely right.  Or you never hear Heartbreaker without Living Loving Maid.

I hope Joe Lo Truglio’s Rizzo pops up.  But it sounds like he may not have been able to make it :(

If I remember Police Academy 4...Citizens on Patrol?  (the s is silent)

Yah, pre-IRL was excellent since the 500 was part of things. And as a huge Mario fan he was racing then too. I was probably a bit too young to really appreciate the pre-IRL at the time. Late 90s for me as a teenager is when it really took over my life :) I think 94 was when I started to keep the schedule on my wall

It’s right up there with “you’re not gonna get a green card with that attitude, pal” :)

Yah, it’s almost like words have meanings.  And somebody who makes their living writing should know how to use them.

Yes, this. CART was running faster than this in 1998.

I maintain late 90s CART is the best era of racing ever. Those cars were absolute beasts and fast as hell. Not to mention gorgeous. 3-4 chassis manufacturers, two tires suppliers, 3-4 engines suppliers, diverse tracks, and deep talent. Really a golden age.

Strong Russian Olympics vibes.

Nah, the Germans have luckily ignored the Indians for the most part.  If anything, they’re happy an iconic British brand has already been gobbled up by a former colony.

Baffles me.  There’s one boomer on our town facebook roundtable that always spouts off about handouts/not working hard/socialism, but on his personal page (which is all public), he talks about being mad at changes or whatever to his city pension.  [he seemed to run the city maintenance department].  I’m not saying he

My parents took me based on the same logic.  It is a bit jarring to see the tv spots after watching the movie.  The tone is just off a bit.  Or maybe just coming out in September was sort of a wasteland.

Agree. The DVD included trailers and they definitely didn’t match the movie. How a studio can take that stacked cast and director’s follow-up to Field of Dreams and just squander it with bad marketing....it’s mind boggling.

I guess overall it was a hit, but could have/should have been bigger.

Oh I know —- he underrates the making of The Burbs. That’s what I meant.  Carrie Fisher mentioned it once as a really pleasant experience, so I always hope to see or hear Hanks give it some love.
