Oh I absolutely agree on the racial stuff in LALD & other aspects of the earlier movies that didn’t age well.

LALD is certainly not the best, but it’s my favorite. I think I was just the right age when we rented it as a kid....the music is great, not too many gadgets (in fact, it’s weird there’s no Q at all, but I

YES! Gung Ho is really fun. I don’t usually point to this example since I love cars and probably give it a little higher grade than most non-car people.

Also...I’m hoping you’re a Teo Fabi fan.

Upon rewatch, QoS is much better.  Good pacing and good action.  I think really the only thing that I really, really have a problem with is they decide the showdown at the end needs to be a fist fight between Bond & Greene.  Mathieu Amalric is just way smaller than Daniel Craig. It makes no sense at all that he’d give

This is what’s great about talking Bond....I’m 100% with half of what you wrote :)

OHMSS is one of my favorites, despite Lazenby (who is not great, but not as bad as people think).
Dalton is my favorite for sure and I really put his two movies high on my list, even though they have many flaws.
Tomorrow Never Dies is a

Yup.  I do very much like the French Connection chase, but Bullitt is tops.  I mean sort of like Rubber Soul and Revolver.  Revolver is better, but Rubber Soul is still A+.

I love Michael Keaton so much! He’s hilarious in Night Shift and even though it’s a bit of a family movie and not so “cool”, Mr. Mom is awesome. He brought so many little great moments to it.

There’s not too many on youtube, but his appearances on Letterman were always great too. He and Dave are old friends and worked

For sure!  Same could be said for most of Roger Moore’s movies and even Diamonds are Forever.  I love OHMSS (despite Lazenby...fine, but not great) and it certainly could lose about 10-15.  Even The Living Daylights probably could have trimmed some of the Afghan scenes a bit.  Sometimes more is just more.

I was coming in for this.  Maybe it won’t be truly collectible, but it will be highly notable and likely sought after.

Yes!  That is my favorite Brosnan one by a huge margin and is in my top 5 of all Bonds.  One additional aspect that I think is really overlooked:  It’s a short runtime.  This Bond movie never drags and keeps the action and story moving.  So many Bonds (and other movies) could do well to trim about 10 mins out.  This

Scion xB not Xb.  Not like this is a car site or anything.....

yup. combine his indifference with some obvious aging/weight gain. And then throw in some pretty bad early 70s fashion + Vegas and it just feels tired and washed out. Live and Let Die was so much more stylish and had better sets. SC squinting in the dessert sun was just “blah”.

Same.  It seemed LTK needed one more coat of polish on the story or editing.  I can’t quite put my finger on it.  I just generally think it was the studio was having financial troubles and cut corners.

I agree. I think it would have been another “by the numbers” take. They tried some new things in OHMSS and I’m not sure they would have been so adventurous had SC come back. I kind of look at DAF as an example of that...they just went right back to the old formula and SC seemed bored.

OHMSS probably could have been

It really is something that it ended up being one of the best Bond movies *despite* him.  I put this opposite the two Dalton movies that ended up being good *because* of him....elevated them.

Live and Let Die is really great.  That one and For Your Eyes Only did show a bit more of a serious Bond.  I liked that.

I feel like you’d like License To Kill.  It’s not a perfect movie, but it definitely shows a no nonsense Bond.  Dalton was really good at this....I think the world wasn’t ready for a more literary take on Bond (and his movies were let down a bit by the studios I think.....there’s a somewhat rushed/low budget feel at

India used to be like this too (up until early 00s). It’s a big reason why Coke left the country in the late 70s (couldn’t be certain to protect their formulation) and why all the auto and bike makers wouldn’t bring latest technology over. Bringing one model generation old stuff (or older) was sufficient for the

Good point. I’m OK pushing 2 hours if there’s a reason. But so often I find myself just sort of wondering why we’re in this little detour or why this sequence has lasted too long.

I remember some director/producer commentary for Back to the Future 2 where they talked about deleted scenes and mentioned one that was

Agree. I must be really getting old since that tends to be one of my big complaints in movies: editing. So many times I’m thinking “if they could have trimmed like 10 minutes, it would have been really good”. James Bond has been like that for a long time too. It’s one of the reasons I like Tomorrow Never Dies so much,

If even one car slid into the barrier and couldn’t keep it going, safety car with 1-2 laps left would almost certainly have sealed it up for Lando.

Lots of what ifs for sure. Tough break for Lando, but I’m not sure there’s much value in “blame” game. Lots of gut calls and those by nature are gonna be less than perfect.

I
