I liked the redesigned-for-'77 GM B-body two-doors. Each division really put its own spin on them, and I thought they all worked—from the Chevy's folded backlight to the Buick's crisp C-Pillar. They looked better than the 4-doors.

There's a school zone I pass through sometimes that has a lower speed limit "when children are present." Meaning exactly what? Seems like a handy revenue generator for the town.

@stephdumas: Eureka, that's it! Still, I'm starting to fear this will look all bloaty in person...same way the Camaro and LaCrosse photograph well but look chunky up close.

Nice to see a Malaise-era Chevy truck—now we need to add a pickup to this series. There are a surprising number of them still rolling around North Jersey, though most of them are pretty scary looking.

@Paul Y. don't drive too fast.: We had two of those Dodges in our family—a '72 Sportsman that was our family hauler and an '80s model that my brother used for a work van. The Sportsman was replaced by a '72 Voyager, which almost makes three, except the Plymouth had a slushbox—not as reliable as its 3-on-the-tree

Is that factory paint? That color is fantastic.

What I read indicates that the cops weren't responding to anything—they were RETURNING from a mutual aid call in another town. They had NO REASON to be speeding and were running without emergency lights. Others here have fully addressed the difficulty of judging closing speed in the dark with a vehicle going 94 mph. I

Run silent, run beep.

@YankBoffin: I actually saw one of these in the wild a few months back. Without the badging, I would have been hard pressed to ID it. In hindsight, it was almost as heinous as the Cimarron. Almost.

Wait, I've got it! Doors that scoop you up like a pelican pouch...

That is a large engine. It looks like he tipped over the cab on a Peterbilt.

Celebrity Eurosport, anyone?

The westernmost portion of US 46 in NJ provides a nice, low-key display of American kitsch and general weirdness. Best restaurant name: Luigi's Rancho. Best cross street name: Manunka Chunk Road. #roadtrip

Nice...those are the ones you have to hit out of the park.

@brandegee: Shame about the torque converter; if it was the same problem I had on my '90 Calais, the easy fix was to pull a little blue plug somewhere under the hood and drive on. The mechanic charged me $40 for diagnostic time, and I drove it another 50k or so. But I guess that wouldn't have kept the head gasket

$2,300 tranny rebuild on my '98 626. I really wondered at the time whether it was worth it, but I've clocked a lot of miles since, and 200K is within reach. #qotd

Why the single-use trampoline never caught on. #nissangtr

This, along with a Ford Cortina GT, was among my first Matchbox cars. #lotuseuropa
