I've done Route 9N in a '99 540i6, and man, it was glorious. I also did it in a Honda Fit, and a Hyundai elantra with big rust holes, and each time, it was awesome.

You probably just need more ram and a better video card. The CPU is rarely the bottleneck in a gaming rig.
