Is it bad that my first reaction these days is - why even call the police? especially when there is a 99.5% chance that their duty to “protect and serve” will either 1) escalate the situation, incite more violence or 2) turn the nonviolent incident into a more violent or life threatening situation than it already is.

The sad thing is that our military veterans returning from the Middle East are better trained in community policing and deescalating volitile situations without violence than most police in the US.
