It actually takes a little bit of time to complete a 20-40K$ transaction, regardless of credit concerns. A vehicle is movable property that needs to be registered and insured, not a can of Coke at the grocery.
Talk to any sales pro and they will have a story similar to yours. Good sales person will chat up the prospect before moving on. A skilled one will conversationally find out all he needs to know in few minutes.
