The only reason dollar coins have failed is because the government continues to produce paper dollars. People are resistant to change (pun intended).

1/2 yes, but the US Mint never made 1/4 cents. Some local governments did make tokens for smaller denominations as low as 1/10 cent (one mill) for sales tax purposes, but these were never official coinage.

Actually, pennies don't get the P mint mark. Also, many pennies are minted at the mint's West Point facility, but don't get a W mint mark, making those minted at Philadelphia or West Point indistinguishable.

I have a similar one, but from Toshiba. It still works great, and the 200lb weight is a great anti-theft deterrent.
