The only times a ‘good guy with a gun’ stops a ‘bad guy with a gun’ are when cops preemptively shoot people. Without fail, these stories end up being ‘racist cop murders unarmed minority person’ and the stories are quickly swept under the rug to make way for the next wave of awful news.
There’s nothing more American than conflating a brand name with some specific political / ideological point of view. Race cars, delivery pizza, clothing brands, etc. are all expected to ‘say things’ about us. You know what I say? Fuck that.
Historical examples in other civilized societies says we should see massive change almost immediately. But - this is America! Let’s not reality get in the way of our preconceived notions.
Yeah, me neither.
It’s pretty telling that ‘violent revolution and a guaranteed bloodbath’ is the anticipated result of trying to put some restrictions in place on assault weapon / bump stock ownership.
I think an important piece of information to include / link would be whether or not DNAInfo and Gothamist were profitable enterprises.
You can’t legislate how people think, feel, or view others. You can legislate the quality of public education, healthcare, and living wages. Baby steps.
Mostly brown people play football and that’s awesome. Cricket is just an insanely boring sport.
You know who tries to draw parallels between homosexuality and pedophilia / bestiality? Hardcore Christians. Something about that enormous ‘fuck logic and critical thinking’ decision they made earlier on in their life leads to their making outrageous comparisons anytime they’re involved in some kind of debate.

US victimizes Arabs abroad, militant Muslim immigrant kills unrelated Argentinean tourists. “An Eye for an Eye” taken to spectacularly tragic and misguided lengths.
Which white guy in Charlottesville?
Not sure if you saw my comment to someone else above, but I can vouch for the ‘coasting’ thing. I cut my hours, accepted the minor pay reduction, and used my newfound free time to pursue personal interests outside of my workplace. It was life-changing and I ended up feeling happier both in and out of work. It’s…
I’m with some others on this thread — what are your options for coasting? (taking steps to incrementally lighten your workload / weekly hours and treating the improvement in work / life balance the same way you’d treat an increase in pay / position). I did this a while back, and it turned out to be the best career…
A few years ago I was in an unhappy spot in my career. I had a lot of job security but found the work sort of soul-crushing. After some deliberation I went to my manager and asked to be shifted to a 32-hour work week so I could pursue other interests while still filling the niche role I had at work. Luckily, my…
I think the stigma surrounding miscarriage leads to it being kept more secret than it should be - the same as abortion. A much larger percentage of pregnancies in in miscarriage than common knowledge would have you believe.
If that’s your takeaway, you sorely missed the point.
