Exactly, the general public is always let off the hook, as if politicians come out of some sort of Washington DC miasma. At some point the public is going to have to take at least an ounce of responsibility for not giving a shit about anything and promoting ignorance of the world around them.
Yeah, I have. Several times. And no matter how often I read it, it doesn’t get any better and in fact gets worse.
It’s one of those things I keep coming back to;
White progressives didn’t vote enough, the black vote was down 8% to pre-Obama levels, and there remain more eligible Latino non-voters than eligible Latino voters - something that’s been a reality for some time now.
If/when the Democrats don’t do as well as they probably should in 2018, it’ll be because they didn’t support universal health care enough or didn’t obstruct enough or “the candidates weren’t inspiring enough” or they weren’t left enough, and when all those ideas run out, they’ll do what they always do and blame it on…
To me, the equation is simple.
I feel like the problem with blaming Obama for that is that it also let’s Americans (particularly liberal Americans, and even more particularly white liberal Americans) off the hook for not getting off their asses and moving to the polls.
