Did anyone "go 'Oh no, a Western film with a half-black cast! For shame!'" because I don't think so.

You're giving the production way too much credit. I don't think they've thought about any of this, and are just stomping on the story's integrity mindlessly.
It's alright to mangle her character arc by changing Roland's race, but unacceptable to change hers?
No, Detta was definitely driven to homicidal rage by the mere presence of white people but she regularly had sex with black men. She was a misanthrope, but that hate was hardly directed in equal measure.
And the AV Club is a less mainstream reddit.
"Roland just has to be a hypercompetent badass."
Have you read the books lately? Because Roland being black would completely destroy his arc with Susannah.
Apparently he only goes by Jason. It's a military thing.
Morpho is the guy The Monarch calls Dad who died in a plane crash. His cave is in The Monarch's parents house, so it's pretty much confirmed. There's more evidence of that than of Morpho being Vendata, though I think both are true.
I agree that the show is as excellent as ever. I think the long wait just lets people over hype. Every season is met with this same response, followed by years of fond reminiscence.
Well Kano is the one who called him great so it's just his opinion. Maybe Kano just really liked his cooking. Kano worked for Morpho as a sidekick, so some level of respect is assumed.
He's the Multiple Man. I'm not sure how that is deus ex machina.
Are you disagreeing?
"I'd like to know how the polar bear got into Wide Wale's penthouse, and how he survived that ordeal."
It's not what happened, but it would be what Sheila assumed happened, and I appreciate that the show doesn't have to spell out every characters thought process or hold your hand. It's what makes this show good and The Walking Dead bad.
He took off from a virtual standstill, while carrying another person. That's flying.
It's not something he does often, but it is established as something he can do since Hate Floats.
"I find it a bit too hard to believe that, after seeing her husband on
the top floor of a roof of an entirely different building, she’d think
she’d suddenly see him right at the bottom floor of Wale’s building,
without casting some suspicion on the logistics of it all."
So Kano worked for Blue Morhpo. I wonder who the great man he took from the world actually is then.
From Wikipedia:
"A sequel series, ReBoot: The Guardian Code, is in production as of 2015."
