Being averse to spoilers, I rather prefer this. I don’t read reviews to learn in advance what’ll happen; I read them for vague generalities like what’s the film about, what sorta tone does it have, did the reviewer enjoy it, etc.

It seemed petty to note in the review, but I would take Nicole Kidman’s Lucy over a Debra Messing Lucy any day, on the general principle that it always better to cast Nicole Kidman over Debra Messing.

I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s due for a remake, but I can say that if I ever saw the original, it was in like third grade (They showed us either Grease or West Side Story for some reason) I’ve never been big into musicals, even genre defining ones, so I never saw it at any time in my life when I might remember any

I am very excited that the reviews have been positive all around. As expected, Elgort is turning out to be the weakness here, but apparently not enough to badly damage the movie.  I’m now more excited and less wary.  With Spielberg directing and Kaminski handling the camera, this movie is the spectacle I’m now looking

I would have preferred a Spielberg ‘Fiddler On The Roof.’

It’s interesting to see how many people are down on the entire concept of a remake of West Side Story considering how inherent adaption is to the stage musical. It sounds like Spielberg succeeded in finding a reason for the production to exist, which is exciting.

I’m sure this is well made because it’s Spielberg doing something he’s passionate about but I can’t imagine a less interesting project than a remake of West Side Story.  Hopefully whoever the target audience is enjoys it, but I’ll definitely pass.

I only watched Wolf of Snow Hollow (and the short film version of Thunder Road), but that was quite good.

Seriously awesome movie, and I’m very sorry that it bombed. Great performances and the titular duel is an all-timer for great combat.

There is ceremonial dude-kissing in the finished film. I think Scott was concerned that if Damon kissed Affleck specifically, it would be all people talked about.

Oh, the stuff from Le Gris’ lawyer is hilarious. Stopped just short of writing “This dude guilty” in his own records.

Part of those trial records include:
- Someone literally riding to test Le Gris’s first alibi, where he claims he could not have even been in that city that day based on where he supposedly was

Funny supporting Affleck (Good Will Hunting, Extract) is by far the best Affleck, so this has me excited. I’m hoping this dude is essentially the 14th Century version of his character in Mallrats.

He does a great job and rekindled Bennifer.  His year has been more successful then most.

I’ve been hearing from several fronts that Affleck is terrific in this, which is a pleasant surprise, considering beforehand the discourse was mostly mocking his hair.

Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!

I would also note this event is so well known because of the absurd amount of first hand accounts.  Dozens of people wrote what they saw, details down to who through what swing at which part of the armor.  For an event from the 1300s its comically will documented.  Also yeah its a fascinating story of objectivity and

Scott would be one of the last directors I would expect to ever retire. I’m not even certain he’s conscious of half the movies he directs these days, might just be what he does when he sleepwalks.

What a disappointing review. I feel like you missed the point entirety. I don’t think this is meant to be a parody at all — it’s a musical horror comedy that’s aware of its references but doesn’t cram them down our throats. I found plenty of genuine pathos to be had here, and some refreshing deepening of tropes,

I feel like this review is overly harsh. The songs were pretty memorable, and I’m not exactly a fan of the style of music, so for me, that’s saying something. It doesn’t quite hit the heights of Shaun of the Dead, but they must have had a fraction of the budget. Overall, I liked it enough to add it to the Christmas
