You know, I think I feel the normal R/T more. The styling changes like the rocker panels and giant grill make the car look flat, slab sided. It's just a touch too boy racer I think, for a car that needs to have a more reserved kind of menace.

Entirely, yes. The made it look like ours because they new the design worked. But they didn't know what the inside looked like, so that was completely different. Also, they assumed ours had hardpoints for weapons, so theirs did. The wiki article and web search on the Buran project is really interesting reading.
