Gah, Connery banana hammock!

OMG yes, 'Bell, Book, and Candle' is in my top 10! When I saw the picture under the headline I was all, "Oh Kim Novak no!!"

No problem! I love the original, but Aretha's vocals and the twangy guitar on this one can't be beat.

Yeah, I'm not a SITC fan, so I haven't really seen SJP in much. But there should be a deeper level of criticism for her last movie than just, "How dare she present herself as if she were attractive when clearly she is old and ugly!"

It's so ridiculous. My breaking point was The Dark Knight, too, when I heard someone on a podcast complaining about what a downgrade Maggie was from Katie Holmes, and how she "looked like a pretty girl whose face had melted."

Maggie is one of those actresses that I go from sort of liking to loving, just defensively, because I've heard so many guys bitch about how ugly and unfuckable she is. Same with Sarah Jessica Parker. Nothing will make me like a female celebrity quicker than men saying she is worthless because they don't want to have

How does Ewan look better now than when I first got a crush on him at 15?!

I just have to mention Robin McKinley's two novels adapting Beauty and the Beast: one, Beauty, was written in the 70s and was (I think) her first book, and the other, Rose Daughter, was written 20 years later. In Beauty, the protagonist is awkward and feels homely compared to her two lovely sisters. She feels like her

All I can think: that hot dog looks mighty fine.

Was that a Tweet reference?!

I LOVE THIS MAN. Holy crap, I just want him to be my boyfriend for reeeeeaaaals.

Fuck it, everyone in my family's getting knitted slippers this year.

Oh, Portland. Your crimes are the lamest.

To get really meta, Dave Holmes (yes, former MTV VJ guy) has a blog where he vows to read a "Year of Doing Something" book every week for a year, then write a book about it. It's excellent, although he hasn't updated in way too long.

@daisen-in: See also: Kevin Corrigan. Although Corrigan is actually awesome in his own right.

Fun fact: my mom was on Name That Tune in the 70s, and the episode she was on was actually the one that VH1 pulled clips from for "I Love the 70s". She's the young Asian woman with a pixie cut shouting "THE STREET WHERE YOU LIVE?!"
