Especially at 49psi to start with.

Salt flats don’t allow cars to hit their maximum speed, the drag is too high. They also (typically) don’t allow you to run both ways at Bonneville which would preclude a legitimate world record.

OK, the tires used are listed. But I still find it dumbfoundingly amazing that ANY tire is capable of withstanding the forces exerted on it at over 300mph. I mean, holy-effing-crap.

We were planning on replacing the 08 Sienna within the next year or so anyway. So spending 6k to fix a motor only to keep the car another year or so didn't make sense when I could use that money towards my downpayment.

Honda gave me a $1000 rebate towards the conversion costs. Most OEMs offer a similar rebate.

So what makes a van with $40,000 in extras not worth a $6k motor?

Tom, did Honda offer any financial assistance similar FCA’s Automobility program? Just curious what support other manufacturers provide with conversion costs?

I think this was the most favorite post I’ve read so far on Jalopnik, and that’s going back to Doug DeMuro times!

Not to defend our insane system here, but this kind of stuff isn’t covered by government-run healthcare anywhere else, either. For example, in Canada if you suffer some kind of spinal injury, the costs of modifying your car, home, etc. and buying a power wheelchair are on you (or supplemental insurance, if you have

If you have the money for this, you have the money for solar power which means you can drive this pretty cleanly regardless of how efficient it is on electric

I don’t get it. If you buy an EV, you might be a tiny bit caring about the environment so why would you buy a Hummer ?!?

Cup 2's don’t have much tread on them to begin with. Its a road legal racing tire. If you drove them on the street for their entire lifespan you’d probably be lucky to get 5 thousand miles out of them.

That’s actually the semi-slick portion of the tire...

On the website it says Michelin Pilot Cup Sport 2 ... kudos to whomever below guessed correctly by the tread pattern!

They didn’t go to COSTCO for the Buy 3; Get 1 free deal?

nope... im going with the just-as-good off-brand tires for $45 on alibaba for my land speed record.... save a ton of money, because otherwise racing is expensive.

<At 200mph most tires are not up to the task, bugatti made special ones to go 250-260.....330 is ludicrous and near impossible to prove.>

It’s absurd that both driver and manufacturer think that the Tuatara can go FASTER. There are airplanes SLOWER than that thing.

On tread pattern alone they are Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s, which is what many supercars and high end track-oriented sports cars come with from the factory. I don’t know what the actual rating for them is, but there’s no way to test the actual limits of a tire designed to go this fast without being able to go this
