“I have been crying nonstop for the last two days and feeling like the world has collapsed around me.”
Does video game “journalists” do anything else then shill for predatory anti-consumer companies? Just wondering since everything that you and your fellow “journalists” are writing is to take a huge d... on gamer’s and potential customers of your site. One bad “egg” and all of you are calling people: entitled or toxic…
Take it as an attack, if you may.
Kotaku is so horribly one-sided and never bothers to give fair representation of what’s really going on. The creators were total assholes and got treated like assholes. Nathan, will you ever stop being an ass-kisser?
When your entire livelihood depends on other people purchasing your product, maybe don’t bite the hand that feeds you?
The devs brought this on themselves, they could have just said we needed the financial support and then keep their mouth SHUT. Instead, they engage a community head on and tell people to go worry about global warming instead of this, and yeah, that will piss some people off.
Things to learn developers — Hire a PR person.I know they seem like the devil, that the things they write tend to come off as eye rolling pablum, but they exist for a reason.
It really does seem like Tim Sweeney is purposely fanning controversy to keep the Epic store in the public eye and put developers in a position to draw fire on behalf of Epic for Epics failings.
Not a suprise, tim sweeny’s tweets are often as snarky, condescending and elitist as the ooblets one. Ooblets is another one that made an exclusivity deal that infringes on written promises made to paying patreon customers and donators. sure it probably isn’t legally binding (opposed to kickstarter) but hey, they sure…
If they only had made the announcement with professional tone the backlash would have been much smaller.
The reason I’m boycotting everything that i wanted t buy that became an exclusive to Epic Store is the fact that all of those developers decided to make the move so suddenly, simply because Epic put a lot of money on the table. I use Origin and Steam without issues, but then again I haven’t bought anything from EA…
Uh huh.....I looked at the discord and their announcment. No wonder they got hate, they are just a bunch of pricks.
Ignored the actual post. It patronized people, and ignored the fundamental issues that exist in the Epic Store.
Ooblets can do what they want. Epic is gonna Epic. But I’m not going to support the latter, and I really don’t appreciate the former acting like asses to their (future) customers. They showed their entire ass, for a game that is supposed to be friendly, fuzzy, and fun.
You obviously didn’t read the people who politely addressed their concerns, people who invested in monthly payments to support their product, and got really bitchy and condescending responses for no real reason than inquiring.
The attacks are inappropriate. Terrorizing someone because of what storefront they choose for their game is both petty and callous.
Much as I dislike the fact that Mechwarrior 5 is also going to be EGS exclusive, they handled the announcement much better than this. And they gave refunds out of their own pocket.
Coming to you from the studio that treats their own developers like hot garbage!
“ “Gotta quickly address the faked screenshot going around of me supposedly saying ‘gamers would be better off in gas chambers,’” he wrote.“
If you get harassed, that’s definitely the fault of the harasser.
