Oh God, sporting events! This summer, MLB had a military appreciation weekend in which the players all wore camouflage versions of their uniforms. That was almost painful to watch.

No one thanks any other professional for their service (except maybe firefighters that worked on the 9/11 rescues). I think that’s what’s so weird about it.
I had a long reply but it disappeared into the nether. So this is take two:
I know. But how would CPS know that she had given birth again if someone didn’t call them?
I guess you’re trying to say that marijuana use isn’t a reason to take kids into custody. And I agree. Also, lots of states agree. Perhaps not NY. But my fairly red state did not take kids into custody because of drug possession, drug use, or any reason that dealt with drugs specifically. However, if the use of drugs…
You are likely correct. I didn’t mean to discriminate against the tortoisely-inclined amongst us.
You haven’t? You are maligning these social workers in Oregon up and down this thread and absolutely ignored anyone who might know more than you. You don’t get to hide behind “well, there’s no information” while attacking absent people. Either go get that information or shut it. It’s pretty simple.
Well, I’m retired so no chance of burnout. Although, I did see a lot of sparkly new social workers burn out in their first year of work for putting in too much time and essentially working the case plans for the parents, similar to the 24/7 plan you espouse although I think they drew the line at actually moving in. Is…
Or you could just shut up about something that you clearly have no idea about. You are never going to be able to judge this family accurately. It’s not your job. It is, however, the job of the actual judge who ordered CPS or take the child in. (Were you even aware that CPS can’t pick up any child without a court…
And we won’t. CPS can’t release the names of reporters. For obvious reasons. They can’t even be compelled to release the names while under oath. We have to have anonymity for the reporting structure to work.
Yes, but the foster parents are being selfless in their own homes.* Not being asked to go live with the family of their foster kid. That’s the thing I have a hard time believing would happen. Sure, someone somewhere might do it but in my career, I’ve had over two thousand kids on my foster care caseload. And I’m from…
I agree. I try to chime in on these articles as much as possible so people can get a behind-the-scenes look at a thing that everyone has an opinion on but not usually a lot of knowledge about. I get that everyone would like to think that parenting is instinctive but it really isn’t. Not for everyone.
It’s rare for kid’s disability to automatically translate into adult’s disability. Those kids you knew were getting SSDI to help their caregivers pay for extra things like therapy. When they turn 18, they would have to undergo a separate evaluation to file for SSDI if they couldn’t work due to their mental health…
Can be perfectly capable. Not is. Not necessarily and likely not in this case.
Really? Because tribal situations are different from states’ situations. I’d be surprised if you really had data on that since they are separate systems. Not that anybody’s situation can’t go any way but there’s no overlap generally between tribal social workers and states’ social workers. It would be like me stating…
They did work with the parents with the previous children. In the linked article, the parents talk about having attended parenting classes. Sadly, this issue will probably not get better with more classes for this particular couple.
He is raising two of his daughter’s kids. I think that’s the opposite of self-serving.
Well, it’s their third child (fourth really, but I’m counting the twins as one parenting opportunity). How much work do you think the state should do with these parents that hasn’t been done before?
I mean sure the doctors and nurses at the hospital also made a report to CPS if the parents were unable to demonstrate parenting skills while there. It’s likely not just the grandfather’s word against the parents.
You can take every class in the world but unless you actually demonstrate the ability to parent, then no dice.
