What measuring stick would you accept, for the racism and homophobia and general shiftiness of the South? Amount of slaves held? Poverty rates? Literacy rates? Per capita income? Economic productivity?

Well it's true that the REAL divide in America is rural and urban. And that the shitty redneck town in the podcast isn't shitty because it's in the godforsaken South, but because its small.

There are more reasons to not visit Alabama than stereotypes. You can not visit Alabama because it's ugly and boring.

White people in the South are in fact overwhelmingly Republican. People in the South are in fact more racist. And if you measure by, say, education and literacy, they're more stupid.
