The expectation that films should be faithful to history is a relatively new one. Back in the day no one gave a flying fuck about how accurate their "based on a true story" movies were.

Wasn't that pretty much driven by Charlie Kaufman's difficulty in coming up with a full coherent screenplay for "The Orchid Thief"?

I think one can make an observation about the historical accuracy of a movie while not taking that to be a negative observation of the movie's quality. And that's a great example. "Bonnie and Clyde" is absolute shit as far as history goes. And it's a goddamn classic.

That's the thing, though, Cameron didn't take a ton of license when depicting the actual event. All right, fine, Bruce Ismay wasn't really the weasel he was in the movie, but by and large that film is pretty goddamn accurate in its depiction of the disaster. Putting fictional characters in a real setting gives one

That poor guy. He should just enjoy all that "Twilight" money and do something else with his life. He could travel! Open a bed and breakfast! There are many many things he could do while always wearing a shirt.

Thatcher should have eaten a nice steak dinner in Bobby Sands' room. A big T-bone, mashed potatoes, vegetable of her choice, pint of beer to wash it all down.

How about more Nathan Rabin pieces? Maybe make "My World of Flops" a more frequent feature, or bring back "Silly Little Showbiz Book". But no, let's bring back Cameron Esposito talking about Cameron Esposito.

A Cameron Esposito column always feels like the "Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich" scene from "Being John Malkovich" in prose form.

And it's doubly weird that the AV Club picked a random individual and, uh, hired her to write about herself.

Well if I were the gatekeeper she wouldn't get a column! No, I'm just a reader of the website that wonders why Cameron Esposito's diary gets space along with all the entertainment news, movie and film reviews, etc.

Indeed. The AV Club, a website dedicated to entertainment and pop culture…and, uh, Cameron Esposito talking about herself.

You know, it takes all the fun out of "why does this person get an AV Club column" when she does it herself.

"Barney Miller" should come first on that list, guys. I know everybody loves Joss Whedon, but Ron Glass starred for eight years on one of the all-time great American sitcoms.

Jesus Christ, why do people spoiler-tag guesses?

We'll talk about previews all we want, because they run at the end of every episode. If you choose not to see them, stay out of the comment thread and drink a cup of STFU.

On the one hand, a new Miyazaki movie is a good thing.

Because we figure that in a just world, all the Windsors would be hanging from lamp posts.

"Imagine how different the last sixty years would have been if the Queen had been killed by an elephant in 1952"

I didn't feel guilty at all. Nope, not one tiny bit.

Dunno about now, but Neil was super-pissed when Dave abruptly left their show. Went on the record about it in interviews. He was right to be, really—bailing suddenly like that was a shitty thing for Dave to do to his coworkers.
