There was that famous quote by that one dude—"South Carolina is too small for a republic and too large for an insane asylum."

Being "under their rule"? Y'all ran things from 1789 to 1860, more or less. You threw a temper tantrum the very first time you weren't in control of the government.

My favorite scene is Gable telling all those idiots that secession is a very very stupid idea.

Well, that, and the fact that she obviously loves him, although she doesn't realize it until too late.

Yes, yes, yes, yes (as far as the film and book are concerned), yes.

How is Hester Prynne not a straight-up heroine?

It is true that Olivia de Havilland was ridiculously attractive.

Not so beautiful anymore? Because she's fucking 99 years old? Well spotted.

GWTW is a romance because the main plot is the romance between the two leads. This seems pretty straightforward.

And Lazlo has a legit hero moment when he leads the Marseiillaise in the cafe. Ashley, in both book and film, is a complete zero.

Nick and Nora Charles are awesome.

But he was a colorless, spineless void in other films too. I've see "Of Human Bondage" and "A Free Soul". There might as well be a white cut-out shaped like Leslie Howard in every shot.

Someone is missing a joke.

I read this book many years ago, and I thought it was terrible. Boring as hell and several hundred pages too long, as well as being horrifyingly racist. Also a protagonist in Scarlett who is a horrible horrible monster, utterly unsympathetic.

This is a really great movie. Clark Gable is great in it. I don't think Marilyn is that good—imho, she was just not that good of an actress—but she certainly looks fantastic. Hunting horses for dog food is just so goddamn sad.

I'm not sure when the horse wrangling scene was, but he did have his first heart attack two days after shooting wrapped. Had the one that killed him a week later in the hospital.

It's a bastard gas.

Able Archer practically screams for a Phil and Liz storyline.

Maybe none. Maybe Phil ends the Martha operation, Martha and "Clark" break up, and Martha goes back to being an FBI secretary.

Mad Men doesn't do particularly well in the ratings.
