Why can’t we just have a faux documentary based on the book?

Yes, and I can watch as much TV as I want because we are both adults.

Came for the “My wife doesn’t let me watch the draft” takes. Was not disappointed...

Does your wife not let you watch TV? You married the wrong person.

It has become very apparent to me that like you have the quarterback, the guy that protects the quarterback (offensive tackle), the guy to sack the quarterback (defensive end) and the guy who intercepts the quarterback (cornerback). Those are the four positions that teams should be drafting high in the first round.

No, he doesn’t. And his reply shows exactly why he doesn’t have anything to add to the conversation here.

You obviously don’t buy much in the line of hair products. You can go to the store and try on the jeans. You can’t try on the hair products before buying them and most stores will not let you return opened hair products (with one exception) so this is nothing like you not seeing yourself represented in a goddamn jean

As a tall male? Tall males are considered ideal in this society.

You can go buy pants with your size on it and be reasonably assured of a fit. I can’t just go buy hair produce willy-nilly without having any indication with how it will look on curls like mine because product doesn’t just work the same for all sorts of curls. Loose curls and tight curls respond very differently to

So what you are saying is that you don’t understand how black women’s hair works versus white women’s hair and how Shea Moisture even became a thing and you should just not have commented really.

The problem is in this film, the white lady plays the main part and we (the audience) are expected to watch the story unfold through her eyes. She is the human face they prop up in the story, not Deborah’s, who we’re supposed to understand is mentally ill although sympathetic, nor Henrietta’s who speaks about 5 lines.

So, I’m white and I was wondering if someone could help me make this all about me.

I’m going to ignore my better judgement and assume this is a sincere question (although, it never is, when a white person asks something along these lines).

I mean the book threaded a pretty fine line with the author becoming part of the story, which was an enormously difficult feat that I’m still not sure was 100% pulled off. Translating that into a 90 minute movie gives you... well, this.

I want to say it’s clear you’re not Black. Your experience of not seeing an employee is not the same as the culture of retail making it a priority to follow me. I’ve also worked in retail and know that loss prevention monitors the closed circuit cameras and if no employee is out following someone, they’ll walk out

I hate going into stores. I’m a Black woman who’s known all of her life that retailers are going to follow me from the moment I walk through the doors. I also have a curvy shape that blossomed at 15 and the 90s weren’t great for people who looked like me. Trying on clothes sucked back in the day. It was always a huge

Casey Affleck literally just won an Oscar for playing a janitor. Shut the fuck up, Chris Pratt.

Christ Almighty, what a dysfunctional toxic waste dump. The only person I feel any sympathy at all for is Barron.
