It’s a wonder that Pokemon first gen worked at all, the code is basically held together with duct tape. There are a few really good LPs and speedruns that show off just how glitchy the game is. It basically has no error handling at all so it’ll take almost any garbage data and try to use it in some way.
For me the biggest Pokemon development thing was how Iwata was able to get Gold’s code down to such a small size that they were able to fit Kanto onto the same cartridge!
