I actually tried using webapps instead of desktop software because I wanted to dual-boot Windows and Linux, and did not want to hunt for Linux counterparts of software I use in Windows.
I like Windows Media Player, but I have issues playing HD video in it. For that, I use SPlayer and I love it: [www.splayer.org]
