You're definitely right. For what it's worth, I don't know anyone in real life who cares whether it's worse to salute while carrying a dog or a latte, and I do know quite a few who care about vets getting their benefits— if only the media would reflect that.

I don't think they think about it. I've raised the point that abortion rates are actually higher in countries that have banned the procedure than in those where it's legal many times, and no anti-choicer has ever had a response for me. They've pretty much ignored it and said "but babies."
