I’ve always wondered if the base artistic impulse that holds Hollywood together isn’t the idea of whiteness itself. Like defining, mythologizing, reinforcing it, being all existential about it. I’m not calling him a philosopher, he just happens to have stumbled on something actually politically important. He obviously picked up at some point how deeply uncomfortable it made people when he wore “girl” clothes and enjoyed pissing people off and ran with it.
