My mom is retiring soon and I’m trying to convince her to start planning now, whether it be in part time real estate work or traveling or some kind of hobby, for everyone’s sake. She thrives on routine. She’ll either go nuts or she’ll start micro-managing her children’s lives once there’s nothing else to do.

Yes, I’m getting to that point too. Saving is fun and there are so many interesting ways to invest (REITs, lending club, etc) outside of the conservative low risk indexes that I want to earn more on the side to try them out.

Unfortunately the digital revolution has made screen-time a large part of human society as well. Research shows that this negatively impacts empathy. So... it’s very possible empathy may be a life hack to many people.
