Without competition we would be left with one game console that does whatever the fuck it wants because you'll have to buy it if you want to play games. A company making a decision you disagree with (and then listening to the market and backpedaling, by the way - why is that bad exactly?) is a good thing.

I don't see an issue with that explanation. "We're entering Beta and focusing on PS3 games to begin with." Sounds pretty clear to me. They think that offering PS3 games as opposed to PSX or PS2 games will seem like a better value to customers. I'd also bet the difficulty in emulating PSX or PS2 games is low…
