I can’t really explain why but I think Rose’s sister that dies at the beginning of the movie was more interesting to me than Rose herself. There was something about her brief screentime that kind of made me want to see more of her. 

Finn’s arc should have been from reluctant rebel to discovering he was a symbol and inspiration to other disaffected stormtroopers to a full blown rebel leader who inspires a popular revolt in the First Order against Hux and Ren that helps tip the scales in the finale.

Regardless of anyone’s feeling about the character, what they did to Marie Tran in particular was extraordinarily fucked up. I’m furious for Boyega, too, obviously.

When I went to see the first movie and they did the big reveal that he was actually Johnny Depp the whole time, you could actually hear the whole theater groan. I think I spent most of my entire middle school years reading TSR’s catalog of D&D books...I remember really enjoying Vampire in the Mists and The Wyvern’s Spur (sequel to Azure Bonds), but I’m afraid that they don’t hold up to an adult re-read.

Absolutely agree as to only books written by Weis & Hickman being canon. On the other hand, starting with Dragons of Summer Flame, they began to make questionable narrative choices. 

I think some of the best moments are in the short story anthologies of Dragonlance, but I tend to agree. Though I still have a softspot for Sturm and Kitiara’s adventure on the moon.

The Dragonlance books were some of the first fantasy books I really got into. But, only the original trilogies. Similar to the multiple author world of Forgotten Realms, I had no interest in anything that wasn’t written by Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis. My mind just immediately dismissed them as non-canon.

EVERYONE, is more of a Dragonlance kid :-) Forgotten Realms novels paled in popularity; rather, their popularity stemmed from it being chosen as the preferred campaign setting for TSR/WOTC. Not as many players wanted to role-play on Krynn/Ansalon, unless you were playing as Raistlin or Tanis ;-)

I’m pretty much the same. Back then I read just about every one of the Dragonlance books. The only Forgotten Realms I read was Pool of Radiance, which I actually liked a lot, but it was self-contained at the time so there was no need to go further.

I was more of a Dragonlance kid, even though FR seems like it was the more popular series. I just happened to start with DL and didn’t want to juggle two very similar yet entirely separate fantasy worlds.

I hope that some sort of failure isn’t the set-up for Picard. One, it’s a bit of a cliche. How many sequels were set up after the hero retired following a major failure? That premise feels below the talent at work in this series. Two, I’m not sure if an event like that would send Picard into early retirement anyways.…
