It kicked off a boom in direct to syndication television. It was quickly followed by Baywatch, Hercules, Xena, Babylon 5, etc.

Yes, according to “Chaos on the Bridge” one of the execs at Paramount came up with a way to finance the season by selling First Run syndication to local TV stations instead of through a network.
Maybe some famous author — whoever wrote the immortal words “Let me help”? — has an oeuvre that just happens to feature books named the same as TOS episodes...?
Ah, a fine vintage. Hints of toasted wood.
Didn’t you know? We lost Spellcheck in the Eugenics Wars of the 90's.
Ah, a fine reference to a fine episode of Star Trek.
This and Robotech OMG yes. I never did a ton of roleplaying since I didn’t have enough friends who were interested, but I read these books cover to cover repeatedly. I actually own some original art from the Robotech Invid RPG book. Man, I need to go find these books. I *gave away* my Robotech books (to a friend who…
Yes! My friends in junior high / high school spent quite a lot of time playing this in the late 90s. Great times.
This. I had the 2nd edition I think (blue book, darth V on the cover). I was a counselor at a summer camp and needed to come up with a course to give me a break from teaching different sports during the hottest part of the day. I found this and it was amazing. The D6 mechanic made it so so so easy for kids to…
There is a pure, childlike joy of getting to the point where you’re rolling big old double-fistfuls of six-siders to represent how badass your character has become. All the joy and love to this game.
Seconded. It was a great RPG system with great material. The writing style was crisp but painted scenes right out of the movies. I could’ve run an endless campaign in that setting, if we hadn’t moved around so frequently at that time.
I cut my teeth roleplaying with this and Robotech. (I was in Chicago with Evangelical parents during the “Satanic Panic” so DnD was banned in my house growing up)
The show does like to make its villains engage in puppy kicking just so the audience knows how evil they are, doesn’t it?
What the hell happened to Bran was a big one. We did a total 180 on his personality in the time since we’d last saw him, which was as far as we know, not that long ago. The conquest of Highgarden was another, where people were marching and then in what feels like the same day, the castle is taken. And then there’s…
Noooooo. As someone who’s read quite a few long-winded fantasy series, ASoIaF isn’t all that bad by typical door stopper standards; I don’t want anyone from the show coming near it. Sometimes it still feels weird to me that it ever got popular beyond nerds in the first place.
Shocking though it may be, dungeons and dragons muffed the definitions of their sword types. Historically, the longsword is exactly what the article describes. Less than 4 lbs, usually 2.5-3.5 and around 3.5-4 ft total length. What you’re thinking of when you say “long sword” is usually called an arming sword or…
They’ve dealt with Fatal Fluffies, ghosts, alternate universes, synthoids...Cobra La. I don’t think this new world will be too crazy.
Not just the animated ones...
