Most of Taylor’s experience is in television, which is a more producer/showrunner/writer-driven medium, and directors mostly take orders. This is maybe appealing to producer-driven blockbuster franchises like the MCU and Terminator. The MCU is notorious for alienating directors (though maybe escaping Ike

Gotcha. Thanks!

Thanks for clearing that up. I hope Hasbro’s legal department interprets it the same way. I’d hate to see a quality third-party publisher curbstomped in a suit.

This looks awesome, and I’ve really liked previous Kobold Press efforts. But what’s the actual status of third-party supplements for 5th ed. D&D? Is there finally some kind of OGL for it? Did Kobold acquire a licence or an official understanding? Or are they just putting this out there and hoping Wizards doesn’t care?

So it’s not clear if it’s a complete handing back like Daredevil and Punisher, or just a joint-custody arrangement like Spider-Man?

ABRAMS-TREK: I can’t see where we’re boldly going, I’m blind

A tournament arc? Really? Wasn’t that already done better with the motorball arc in the original series? Ugh.

Actually, that’s about as far as I got into it too. Other stuff came up as it was coming out and I never finished it. I eventually ended up buying the rest of the series cheap at a con, so I might try and read it soon.

This was one of the few manga I remained a huge fan of, probably because unlike most other manga I tried to read, it didn’t wear out its welcome. But also because of the Moebius-inspired landscape and mechanical designs—they gave it a bit of a European comics flavour that set it apart.

This is more typically how Alita/Gally appears in the manga. The second manga series, The Last Order, gave her a more mature look.

I don’t feel qualified to comment on turn-of-the-century Arnold Vosloo’s sex appeal, but surely there’s a reason he spent most of two Mummy movies shirtless?

I’m willing to let that slide—sometimes you need to make an actor taller for a shot. Robert Downey Jr. often wears heels for that reason.

I wouldn’t say they’re as bad as the pajamas from The Motion Picture, but they’re pretty bad. I know often a film production will have different versions of the same costume, e.g. one for frontal shots, one for action scenes, different lighting conditions, etc., and I’m hoping this shot is just not the way these

Yeah, but they’re a hell of a lot cheaper than an aircraft that has to carry ordinance and a pilot or aircrew (who have to be born, grow up healthy, be educated at high levels, and then trained in high level skills) in relative comfort and return them intact. Economics has always been another restraint on war—the fact

Honest question here: can the engines of any Navy ships work without electronics?

The Audio Renaissance version of Dune from a few years ago, with Simon Vance narrating and some chapters performed by cast. My only regret is they couldn’t have the cast for the whole book.

Usually, no one reads a Neil Gaiman book better than Gaiman himself. There is a notable exception, though. Lenny Henry’s narration on Anansi Boys:

Why did it have to be sequels snakes?
