Agreed on all counts. And especially egregious since basically every big choice he made was just the logical next step onward from what Abrams had set up in TFA.

But luckily, the rest of his movies are also really great. If Looper is the weakest thing you’ve got, you’re in great goddamn shape

Very excited that Johnson continues to get work after all the shit that’s been piled on him. Maybe my favorite working director.

i wish he’d taken that POV before he made El Camino. not a bad movie at all, but not a particularly great one, and it told a story that IMO did not need any telling

i dunno. i’ve long expected that the final scene would be Walt walking into his office for the first time

I’ve wanted to love this. The cast is doing good work, the direction is strong, and the production design is incredible. But god, so much wheel-spinning in the first half of the season. I wish this had been a really great hour-45 movie instead

Because clicks. And case in point: here we all are

OP, stop trolling and clogging up this thread with your nonsense. What on earth does billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne have to do with Batman???

It makes sense. I loved Capaldi, but viewership definitely declined in his era. And I loved Whittaker’s take, but the material she was saddled with continually let her down. A marquee name is exactly the thing the show needs to make it feel vital again. Granted, I would’ve loved that name to be an Erivo or a Mirren,

this will justify its existence if Bono’s father looks at him and says “the wrong kid died”

Spiritually, I agree with you. On an ethical level, I can’t really reconcile anyone getting assaulted in the course of doing their job, which is why I’d really rather just outlaw paparazzi entirely

There were persistent rumors and allegations that he hit Madonna throughout their relationship, which Madonna doesn’t appear to have publicly denounced until 2015. Plus, he’s got a laundry list of assault charges, mostly in altercations with paparazzi. I’ve also heard from industry folks that he’s a nightmare on set.

no

I mean... is he wrong? Is there anything that gets audiences out to movie theaters now, especially in pandemic conditions, in the volume that Marvel reliably does? Why the snide attitude here when, for better or worse, Marvel movies have become one of the very last things an increasingly divided America can agree on?

The Good Wife is truly excellent TV; I would even say it’s the closest thing prime time network TV ever got to something as holistic as The Wire. I would also say that if you ever do decide to give it a try, stop after season 5 and cherish your memories of it in its prime

The Good Fight is pretty great, if you’re into a legal show becoming increasingly surreal and Beckett-esque with each passing year

the showdown of insidious private sector vs. fascist public sector really is a “no matter who wins, we lose” kind of setup. but yes, in this specific case, yay capitalism

Peaky Blinders is a perfect example of how something can be great without being good

I get irked by the “you can’t be excited about this trailer, Disney is doing a bad” crowd. People can walk and chew gum at the same time

That said, I’m not excited about this trailer

I didn’t like this show, and I was still sad it got canceled. The main trio were doing great work, and the ending left things wide open for a lot of fun without the weight of The Canon dragging them down. I wish it had gotten its chance.

my new rule for queer representation is that if the filmmakers have to tell me about it in an interview outside the text, it’s not queer representation

i’m all for catwoman being a woman of the world, but if this is all you’re gonna do then why even bother

I think there is a 66% chance we never see The Winds of Winter

I think there is a 100% chance we never see A Dream of Spring
