Yes it is. His success in that car is what started it's rise to fame. Most people claim it was initialD because that was when THEY first found out about it. If you watch initialD it is pretty clear the AE86 was already well known, at least in places that saw it used in competition

I'm pretty sure if you have an accident at the Nurburgring it isn't cheap. I remember reading somewhere you have to pay for any repairs that need to be made to the track. (armco etc)
