Yeah, black culture is American culture, until it isn’t. Save us the BS, we know the deal. When it comes to the part of our culture that whites covet, it’s all of a sudden “American culture” but then when it comes to our dialect, and names, and dress or black on black violence it’s “Black Culture”.

It’s something that gets lost in criticizing individuals for cultural appropriation. I can’t be too mad at Meghan Trainor for being a mediocre musician who tries too hard to sound like her influences, but the system that rewards her disproportionately for it has some serious problems.
