I've worked with children who are in state's custody bc of their out of control bx, which is simply a reaction to numerous traumatic events they have gone through. I've never had to raise a hand to any of them. My staff a d I, with time and patience, are able to see our desired results without

I worked for a billing company and several of our doctors were on call for the women's shelters because they routinely saw them for free and would move them ahead of the line. One of the doctors chose this company after the last company sent a bill to the victim. We always had patients calling us telling us how great

I got bitten by a black widow spider last year and got extremely sick and my 4 yr old golden was glued to my side like I've never seen him. He knew there was something wrong for sure, way before I figured out how bad it was or what was even going on. Usually he is a pretty independent and not very clingy, but when I

Someone tried to rob me late at night on my porch, obviously he didn't see my dog sitting at my feet, she attacked him and saved my life. I stood there completely frozen while she bit him repeatedly and chased him up the street. I lost her to cancer a little over a year ago and I miss her every single day. So yeah,

So, not remotely the same thing, but I got the death flu in December and it lasted for a ridiculously long time. I was too sick to leave the house (except for slow, short walks when my housemate wasn't there to take the pup out) for weeks, and too sick to leave the bed for a long stretch, with several recurrences. And

Once while studying abroad, I left a blue ink pen sitting open in the middle of my bed, right around where the crotch lives. A bunch of girl friends and I joked about how it looked like I'd had a blue period all over my sheets. A guy friend who was present freaked out, not comprehending how we could let our period

My (mostly male) friends often get updates about my period, including whether its 'a clotty one' this month or not. If I'm grossed out by the damn thing everyone around me can be too.

Now playing

Oh and for more cute... Take a look at Gertie playing with her new big brother, Tater Tot:

You can pick your friends, and you can pick your politicians, but you can't pick your friends' politicians.*

We got a dog when I was 10, the shelter had a 24-hour hold policy, so after we picked out "Tinker" we went home and came back the following day. When we arrived an older couple was being told the dog was already adopted, it turned out they had fallen in love with him too just after we finished our paperwork, and

I'm not even kidding, I had a terrible experience this weekend with a private rescue: My live-in-boyfriend wants to adopt a kitten for us for my birthday next Saturday. We went to look at them at the local private rescue and were asked seemingly typical questions in the rudest way, "I have to ask...how old ARE you?"

That is crazy bullshit. Unless he said he planned on feeding the cat a diet of poisoned meat and gasoline that was messed up.

Did you try just one rescue before buying a dog?

I have a fifteen minute commute by subway and twenty five minutes if I walk. That's a lot better than people who commute back home to the suburbs. Plus, I've looked at a lot of the doggie daycare or dog walkers in my city and they work around normal 9-5 hours, so that also wouldn't be a problem?

I went into waaaaaaay too much detail about this on the Gawker version of this article, but without the tl;dr, I'll just say I completely agree with you. I have a smallish apartment and no yard, but my pup and I take long walks at least twice daily and the dog park has become my second home, and he couldn't be happier

I had a lady at a Himalayan (a breed of cat) rescue refuse to let me adopt because I was gay. My gf at the time and I went in, and it was all going well until I called her "hon" and held her hand. Then all of a sudden our "lifestyle" wasn't acceptable- I asked if she meant the fact that we lived in an apartment, or

The Lab rescue in LA still hasn't contacted us about our application from December. I suspect it's because we work full time and live in an 1800 square foot house with a small yard. We've also been homeowners for 12 years, have two school aged kids who would love on that dog like you wouldn't believe, and have had

I had a rescue dog in an apartment. It was inconvenient for me because I couldn't just let her out the back door on a rainy morning but it was awesome for her because I had to take her on walks and to the park at least 3 or 4 times a day. She was living it up....a fenced yard does not a good dog owned make.

But THIS DOG BELONGED TO THIS FAMILY. They already owned, loved, and raised this dog. It is not illegal to not spay your dog. It is not illegal to not have your dog wearing her tags while in the house, like my dog. Shit happens - no matter how responsible we are, sometimes dogs get away from us and get lost. I'll
