I don’t know; you said it yourself: the failures are with external drives. It does make sense to me to use SSD’s for portable since you never really have to worry about the mechanical components of the drive taking damage in transit, but I want multiple SSD backups.

My plex server has $300 worth of drives in, totaling about 32TB. No possible way I can get anywhere close to that price per TB on SSD’s.
