when I was first diagnosed with depression etc., the doctor mentioned that maybe the only reason it had taken so long to be recognized was due to the fact that I used to exercise so much until I hit my mid teens.
it can certainly exacerbate things. (I'm thinking of the notion that most people just curate their "best self" as the version to be broadcast to the world.)
I wouldn't say there's inherently less room for forgiveness, though it can feel like an emotional minefield. it can make missteps loom larger than they really are though — at least, I often feel that way.
