Your case is basically that the NBA has at most, 7 important basketball games in a season. And it’s great because the finals ratings will crush anything the NHL can muster.

Why do you care about the 3 rounds before the finals if none of those games are likely to be closer or matter? The NHL playoffs have had more OT games than the NBA had within single digits.

People want to see great competition amongst teams. When only two teams have a chance from day one, people check out.

So what you want is an all star game.

I would take this as the NFL being terrible at player optimization. Brandon Marshall just got paid half of one of his fellow FA contemporaries and I’d argue he’s much better. Cutler also couldn’t get a job. Kaep seems to be a bit of a headcase who has lost the skills he once possessed.
