Wow forgot about Secret of Evermore.... I recall renting it but never beating it. Was a huge fan of SoM but quickly learned this was different and lost interest..... although I don’t really remember it being particularly bad. Is it worth another shot?

The world, the characters, and the story really clicked with me. A lot of FF games can get too obtuse, but this one always had A>B, B>C, C>D in terms of story structure, with just a few things you could do peppered in on the sides.

It has its niche, which it seems this game belongs to. I see no problem with permadeath, though if the developers wish to reach a broader audience then they should add it as an option and not as a core component.

Yup, Green at the least. Work on being able to off the first two or three bosses without taking damage to get health upgrades, that way you aren’t blowing all your cash on hearts to stay alive and can splurge on the occasional key.
