after bank of america charged me fees for putting my money there (fee was for maintenance), I switched to a credit union.

You could always have them setup a lock on the account that changing such information would require it be done in person... I forget what it is called but most banks should have this as part of their identity protection service

aren't they being paid by using your money that you park in their bank? I mean who knows how much they are making off you letting them use your money, they you have to pay them to get it back?
