My idiot friend who is a writer on a rival site just bought a previous gen 15" MacBook for $1800 yesterday. The parts in it are like five years old. While people fanboy over Tesla in the same way as Apple at least Tesla will sell you cutting edge stuff.

I'd say something more important than number of cars built and quality is getting the US electric grid ready to handle something it was not designed for. Some parts of our nation already have rolling blackouts in the summer from air-conditioning use.
