Susan's departure is how it should be done. This is his own granddaughter and he says goodbye from inside the TARDIS and then dematerialises immediately with resolve for what he determines is right. To my mind that's how the Doctor should be – he's effectively immortal and has enormous responsibilities, he shouldn't

I'd much rather a Clara/Missy spinoff myself.

If only they would! They're trying to, but to me they're not pulling it off. Maybe they're better off not trying to and focusing more on just having some plain old cool sci-fi adventures instead. Glad it's working for you though.

I did, thankfully by the sound of it. I've only dipped in to a few of the more recent Moffat seasons. There have been some good episodes, but ultimately it's just much too grandiose. I miss the simplicity of Classic Who, where they had cool sci-fi adventures across time and space made with just a few bits of string

Tom Baker's Doctor dumped Sarah Jane out of the TARDIS in the wrong suburb and then got on with his adventures. Romana, a fellow Time Lord, he said goodbye to in 5 seconds. I'll take that kind of send off over this bloated, sentimental, self-indulgent tripe. This show is becoming a soap in space.
