I don’t know what Dwarf Fortress is but from what I saw they’ve been updating it for 15 years and it doesn’t have the life-like world and uncanny valley problems it presents. It’s like comparing apples to oranges.

Isn’t that limited imposed by it being a video game though? I mean what you described is pretty much your usual video game. You’re the main character and everything revolves around you, with hints of something bigger going on. I don’t think it would be possible to create a world where every character is living its own…

It seems they attempted to get a good blend of every genre instead of getting all the heavy hitters. There’s 2 fighters, 2 plateformers, 3 puzzle games, 3 RPGs, 4 car games and 4 shooting games aswell as a sports and one deep-cut.

I’d add that maybe his friend isn’t a prick. I have a friend that tends to go on 15 minutes rants about stuff I don’t care about or disagree with, but I found the best way to deal with it is to just nod and change the subject once he’s done. Well if the moveset reflect the era from which they come, it’s fine to have more than one version of each character. In this long stories where characters go through multiple transformations you really cannot do them justice by having only one version.

I see what you mean but it just gives this vibe about the console you know? Old 3rd party ports & shovelware and great Nintendo 1st party game. It’s a cycle that’s been haunting Nintendo for a few generations now and I feel the switch will not help them break out of it.

Everytime someone says “This game is perfect for the Switch”, it’s always a more simpler puzzle or plateformer game that works well with the kind of drop-in drop-out cellphone games.
