Onr valid use would be for transferring home video from the phone to a Mac using AirDrop (once Mavericks releases). Right now i connect using a Lightning cable and Image Capture and it's a hassle.

besides all that, most people don't have Internet connections even close to those speeds anyway. I'm at 30Mb with Charter right now. 278Mb won't do me much good unless I'm streaming from local content.

I don't specifically know 802.11ac but with previous 802.11 standards, you don't drop tons of packets as your signal strength degrades.
