This is what I’ve said as well in defense of the Merry Gentry novels. At least in those books the sex has a purpose to the plot. Not so much in the Anita Blake books- which started as plot with some sex and devolved to SEX SEX SEX tiny bit of plot.
The Anita Blake novels were also my gateway into, as you put it, “the butt-kicking heroine urban fantasy genre.” Love the Mercy Thompson books, but you might want to check out (if you haven’t already): Ilona Andrews’s Kate Daniels novels, or two of Lilith Saintcrow’s mini-series- Dante Valentine and Jill Kismet…

Whenever I’m laying in bed and watching on video on youtube in the morning, my cat comes over and BITES ME, as if to say, “Turn that dumb shit off.” She only does this when I watch videos on my phone, the little shit.

My cat, Holly, does that weird territorial hoppy thing on our bed at times too. It took awhile to break her of it (she'd do it nightly when I was ready to got o sleep). Now she only does it when the sheets are changed.
