I think in a big picture way the show has mirrored the books. The books, though, have gone off the damn rails. The last book with the new kid (bullshit), and that fucking Quentyn (just awful), was seriously one of the most disappointing reads I’ve had.

Me too. I just commented upstream that I thought Martin’s last book was horrible and was somewhat torturous to read. The last season of the show, though? Pretty good. At this point, I’m more than happy to let HBO take the reins. Martin’s lost the story.

I see it the opposite way. I thought Martin’s last book was a bloated, horrid piece of shit. The show, on the other hand, made quick work of it in one season and greatly improved the story.

My conspiracy theory is that Martin planned to end the series with the Red Wedding, which would have been awesome. Instead, he decided to keep going and, as you mention, it’s gone straight to Hell since.

That’s odd because there actually is an interview in the article. A question was posed to Martin and he answered. That’s what an interview is.

lol - I could see, arguably, adding new plotlines to the story. But that fucking Quentyn was half the book and all he did was travel across the planet and do something ridiculously stupid and die. New plotlines? OK. Idiotic new plotlines? WTF?
