Seattle is nowhere near as expensive as Metro NY. We rent a 4 BR house here for the same amount that we got a 2 BR apt there. 

I bought my wife a new car because she drive 5 miles a day roundtrip to work. Her last car went for 17 years, so I doubt we averaged spending anywhere near 9k a year on it. Heck, the insurance was less than 80 a month in Metro NYC
