My son was born a year after Avatar was released. I’ve shown it to him; he enjoyed it. No, he doesn’t have Avatar-related toys, but he knows James Cameron is a successful movie director (he’s also seen and enjoyed Aliens, Terminator 2, Titanic).

You’re assuming that. Has anyone asked Cameron why his movies don’t have lots of tie-in merchandise and toys? Some intellectual properties come with a pre-attached merchandising opportunities. Not all movie do that. Not all movies need that.
Tell me about how successful the sequel to Blade Runner and the animated show were.
And add their collective box office intakes and Avatar still wins by a long haul. But why?
