A former college professor and self-identified communist wearing s mask and cracking open an innocent bystander’s skull, on tape, at Berkeley, months ago.

No, it’s supposed to make you realize that we are all deeply vulnerable to tribalism. I’m not saying the events are equivalent. Our *reactions* certainly have been similar. Not equivalent. Similar. On the street and from the media.

You’ve just described the preemptive violence defense that has always been used to grease the skids for “self-defensive” war.

Yes, but we’re beyond flags now. There were no Nazis at Berkeley last weekend. We’be entered the witch hunt phase.

Explain this, then.

Does that explain the massive political violence in your city? Or do you think perhaps it could a problem of the dominant political movement in Portland? Namely violent identity politics and endless ideological warfare? From the left?

Privilege right now is Punching Nazis out of self-righteousness, because it will be the public who loses when the state crushes the next round of violence. Political violence right now is entirely selfish.

I agree. I’ve been watching this movement from here on the left for years and now people I know who were very concerned have sided with antifa. We need nuance right now, not tribalism.

Well, I suppose the Obama administration was a piece of shit, because Politico just leaked that Antifa were considered terrorists by the FBI and DHS years ago. I suppose Trevor Noah deserves to “have his face rubbed in shit” for calling them Vegan ISIS last night. Grow up. They have turned Portland into America’s Most

Okay, check this out: The DHS and FBI just declared Antifa domestic terrorists. Pelosi condemned them after Berkely on Saturday. Paul Ryan had to crawl back and condemn them. The mayor of Berekly labelled them a criminal gang. Trevor Noah called them Vegan ISIS last night. The “bike lock” professor is facing 40 years

You mean like the necessary and painful tradition of carving civil liberties for more and more people out a sordid and unchangeable and impossibly complicated past? Yeah. What a waste of time.

Not to mention that holding these figures accountable for the cultures they were born into from our vantage in the present would indict all of American history. Unless that’s the actual point.

Shoes and typos and ketchup and pineapple pizza, oh my!

You do not speak for women. Most women would rightly call you insane. If you cared about anyone you would not be calling for any of this.

Reid, please explain to me how your headline and response are less gender politicized than Walsh’s. Yes, Walsh is an idiot. Must you sink to his level?
